Landon - Month 8

Landon is now 8 months old.

In the last month...
- He weighs 17lbs 12oz (22nd percentile) and is 26" long (5th percentile) - our measuring system hasn't been perfected quite yet...either that or he has shrunk since last month. (Hopefully it's the measuring!)

- He crawls...everywhere! He started crawling just a couple of days after he turned 7 months, and he's gotten quite quick over the last month.

- He tries to stand up. A lot of the time it's when he's crawling then decides to get off his knees and stand up. He's not even close to being able to go directly from sitting/crawling to standing on his own, but he can certainly pull himself up on things to stand.

- Landon puts him arms up and waves them around (and kicks his legs) when he wants to be picked up.

- He gives five (usually 15 or 20 actually because he gets excited).

- He recently began clapping. It's interested to see what things he decides are clap-worthy.

- He has eaten more foods. At this point, Landon and I eat about the same number foods.

- Since he's been more mobile and our house is mainly tile and hardwood floors, we've made a playroom for him with a softer floor. I love having his playroom because it keeps the mess in one area of the house (kind of). Daniel isn't as big of a fan of Landon's playroom because it took over the room formerly known as the bar.

- He gives head-butts upon request, and occasionally he will give kisses (which are open-mouth slobber sessions, but he means well and we take as many as we can get!).

- We recently began trying to teach him some basic baby sign language (food, milk, more, please, etc.) Hopefully that helps him to communicate with us sooner.

- We celebrated Landon's first Thanksgiving with the Zimmerman side of the family and friends.
Left: Cousin Jake at his 1st Thanksgiving 3 years ago / Right: Landon's 1st Thanksgiving this year.

- We are in San Jose now spending time with the Kelepouris side of the family for Christmas as well as Landon's cousin, Jake's, 4th birthday.

- Landon has enjoyed some Christmas festivities already:

     - We went to look at Christmas lights in a very fun Temecula neighborhood. Even though it was way past his bedtime, he was wide awake and mesmerized by all of the bright flashing lights...so we took him a second time!

     - He got to sit on Santa's lap (at CrossFit).

     - He helped us decorate the house.

     - He also helped us pick out a Christmas tree. (Grammie, if you're reading, don't look at the below pictures!)

     - Landon joined us at a couple of Christmas parties.

     - He loved our Advent calendar. Sometimes he would even clap to the music that it plays.

We're so lucky to have such a happy little guy! We are looking forward to beginning some new traditions with him this Christmas and in the new year!

Landon - Month 7

Landon is now 7 months old.

In the last month...
- He weighs 17lbs 2oz (25th percentile) and is 26.5" long (30th percentile).

- He still rocks back and forth on his hands and knees non-stop...unless he decides he wants to be on his hands and toes, that is. He does a "bridge" kind of movement...we're not sure what that's about.

- He pulls himself up on things to stand (if they're the right height and have an edge that he can grab). He doesn't yet understand the concept of holding on once he gets there, but we're working on that.

- Landon seems to want to crawl - we don't encourage it, as we know we're in for it once he realizes his ability to be mobile. ;)  He's getting close though. So far he can spin himself around and scoot backwards, and just a few days ago he started moving forward in his own way. It is kind of a crawl/scoot/army crawl/frog hop type of movement.
He started at the top (far left) of the blanket.

- We've introduced a couple of foods to Landon this month: rice cereal, bananas and applesauce. He LOVES food! He scarfs it right down. Usually he leans as far forward as he can with his legs moving as fast as they can and his little hands constantly twirling around and around as if he is trying to signal to us "MORE! MORE!" and we aren't feeding him fast enough. Sometimes he lets us feed him, and other times he wants to feed himself (which tend to make for slightly messier dining experiences).

His first experience with bananas was a fun one. He enjoyed his first 5 bites, but then all of a sudden he realized it was the most awful thing in the world. Obviously, I was right there capturing the special moment (as any good mother would be). ;-)

- He waves hi and bye-bye (sometimes) - he only cooperates as our little circus monkey about 62% of the time.

- For some reason, Landon has taken to grunting these days. Apparently it's a sound that he likes (however embarrassing it is for us when in public)!

- Landon's first Halloween costume was a monkey. He had a great time trick-or-treating with his friends, Addison and Kaylee, in his cousin, Jake's, costume.

- He was a great help with Daniel's recovery from knee surgery.
Landon's running the machine for Daddy.

 - He's getting better and better overnight! He usually goes to sleep around 7pm, and he wakes up around 8am. (Yes, we do know how lucky we are, and we appreciate every full night of sleep!)

What a fun month...and we have a feeling there's a lot more to come in the next couple months (yikes)!

Landon - Month 6

Landon is now 6 months old.

In the last month (as of 10/21/13)...
- He weighs 15lbs 13.5oz (10th percentile) and is 26" long (25th percentile).

- He sits! Just a couple of days after he turned 5 months old, he began sitting up all on his own. One day he was so wobbly that he couldn't sit for 10 seconds and then 2 days later he sat perfectly fine on his own for 10 minutes! He loves sitting and playing, and we love it too! (It also helps to be able to sit in high chairs, shopping carts and strollers!)

Neighborhood Watch
- Landon now likes to stand up (while we hold him, of course) and bounce up and down, up and down.

- He recently started getting on his hands and knees and rocking back and forth. Hopefully this stage lasts a while before the crawling kicks in!

- He is more verbal each week. He gargles and makes the "G" sound all the time these days. There was also a weeklong spurt of this fake cough.

- Landon drools like a maniac, and he has found his saliva to be entertaining while endlessly purses his lips and tries to blow bubbles.

- He reaches his arms out to be picked up when he sees us or if he hears us say "up". It's so fun when he reaches for us! Sadly, he also notices when we leave the room, which, on occasion, causes him to cry.

- He can hold a bottle all on his own. And, as you can see below, he's got a strong grip and won't let anyone take it away from him!

- Things that haven't changed: he still spits up lots (the medications didn't help, neither did me giving up dairy), he still shoves his fingers and hands in his mouth (nowadays he can get almost both fists in his mouth at the same time), he still loves books and being outdoors, he still loves to "help" with laundry, he is still a very happy boy and we still think he's adorable.

 - We took Landon on his first road trip. We went to visit his cousin Jake, Uncle Peter and Auntie Amber in Chandler, Arizona.

When in Chandler, we visited the animals at the Phoenix Zoo and attended a Greek Festival-Opah!

- Landon made his first appearance at a pumpkin patch (with Addison and Kaylee Rogers).

- We had fun with some visitors this month...Gramma & Papa (and Tyson) as well as Landon's buddy, Atlas (who is 3 weeks older than him).

- We got one more trip to the beach in while the weather was nice.

- Landon is helping Daddy recover from knee surgery. (Daniel had an ACL tear on 10/22, but he's doing well and is own his way to a full recovery!)

- We're excited to introduce Landon to solid foods! :)

No, Wheat Thins won't be his first food
We can't believe that we are halfway to Landon's first birthday!
