It's hard to believe that another month has passed!
Brooklyn is now 5 months old, weighs 14lbs 15oz (53rd percentile) and is 25.25" long (60th percentile).
She is getting to be more and more of a person as the days progress, and it's so much fun to watch! She's still a little temperamental - if she's not in the right mood, the moment someone makes eye contact with her she gets a GIANT frown and begins to cry (very dramatically). However, if she's well rested with a fully tummy, she often gives great big smiles.
Her grunt laugh is developing into a little giggle too, which is even cuter!
Just like Landon did (and many other babies, I'm sure), when you're holding her she knows the moment you sit down, even if you don't change a single movement. Brooklyn began to enjoy being in the front pack this month, which is very helpful on the days she feels as though she needs to be carried by a standing person. I think it's because she's now facing out toward the world and can see what's going on.
Brooklyn began to roll over (back to tummy, over her right shoulder only) a couple of weeks ago. She now does it all the time, then gets upset that she's there. This is especially frustrating at bedtime...for everyone. In the beginning of the month she rolled from her tummy to her back, but it must have been a fluke because it hasn't happened since.
She's also getting closer to sitting up on her own. She can sit for just a couple of seconds on her own, and she's recently sat (fairly) happily in her Bumbo and entertainment chairs for 10-15 minutes...and I'm grateful for those minutes!
We've been lucky enough to be able to leave the children a couple of times, and it's been easier each time, we think, for Brooklyn. She is so much better at taking a bottle, and she's even beginning to try to hold it herself.
She grabs toys more now and has starting to try to put her pacifier in her mouth. Her success rate with this is low at this time, but we're happy she's working on it.
She now enjoys playing. She loves peek-a-boo, her toes, raspberries being blown on her tummy and, most of all, watching her big brother.
She falls asleep easiest with a soft blanket or stuffed toy on her face...really, on her face. I feel like she might almost be smothering herself by the way she holds it.
Landon and Brooklyn's relationship is already like a roller coaster. Well, his side of it, at least. (She still thinks he is hilarious and wants to watch him, no matter what he's doing.) Landon will ask me to lay her on him (tummy to tummy or just across his back) or will give her a hug or kiss, then a minute later he will not want anything to do with her.
Landon's becoming more of a goofball these days. He loves to sing and now knows several songs. He even tries to sing while he plays his guitar.
We are absolutely positive his terrible twos are over. Well, maybe not quite certain, but his tantrums (as well as time-out-worthy behaviors) have been FAR less this month. Here's to hoping that the worst actually IS behind us (please join us in crossing fingers!)! ;-)
"What's dat?"...all day long...even when he knows the answer.
He loves spending time in the water! He and Daniel have been swimming quite a bit this month, and he loves it!
He also loves to care for his animals like I care for his baby sister.
Landon has been kind of timid around new things, and he seems to be getting more brave as time goes by. He went down the big bouncy slide, did a cannonball and ran through the frog at the splash pad (a big accomplishment for him). Of course, once he does something once he loves it and repeats it again and again.
We had a day of Landon's friends' birthday parties, bouncing at Jack & Nate's 3rd and swimming (and "cannonballing") at Mason's 1st.
Peter, Amber, Jacob and Zoe came to visit for a weekend. We were thrilled to watch the kids while Peter and Amber house-hunted in Temecula. We're hoping for them to move here very soon! Zoe and Brooklyn are 6 months apart in age, and this was the first time they really interacted - it was so fun to see! As usual, Jacob and Landon had a blast together!
We celebrated Father's Day morning with them, then headed to the Rogers' for dinner. It was a very fun day!
Daniel started playing in a flag football league with some CrossFit friends. For guys that seem to be in pretty good shape, they are awfully sore Thursdays through Saturdays. When he goes to football and Brooklyn goes to sleep, Landon-Mama-Date-Night is on! The first date was comprised of ice cream by candlelight (trying to blow out the candles was more fun than eating dessert), and watching part of "Finding Nemo", Landon's first movie (which he LOVES!).
The kids and I spent last weekend in Mission Viejo while Daniel stayed home to play in a golf tournament. As to be expected when visiting Grammie and Papa, we had a blast! Daniel joined us Sunday evening and stayed until Monday evening to watch the kiddos so that Grammie and I could enjoy a relaxing spa day (my personal favorite part of the weekend!). Brooklyn and my parents' Shih Tzu LOVED each other!
Another fun month!
