January 2016

Happy first birthday to our not-so-baby baby! Brooklyn turned one year old on January 30th. She weighs 20lb 3.5oz (58th percentile) and stands 30.5" tall (88th percentile).

Brooklyn has had a great month, full of fun new accomplishments. The biggest of which is walking. She went from just a couple steps at a time in the beginning of the month to walking around the house by her birthday. Sometimes it's still easier/faster to crawl, but these days she spends 95% of her mobile time on her feet. She still a little wobbly, which makes it extra cute!

She loves to play and squeal! (Especially when her brother is playing with her.)

Brooklyn loves to give high fives now.

She seems to understand so much more than we thought. The words/sounds she speaks include Dada, Mama, hat (hata), that (dat), tic toc (usually coordinated with the finger wag), pppfffffffff! (the sound an elephant makes), hop hop (op op while bouncing when asked what a bunny rabbit says) and banana (nana).

She gets really excited about certain books and will carry one across the room to get to someone, climb up on their lap, turn around and plop down to listen and turn pages.

She pats the side of her head when she hears "oh no".

She's obsessed with hats. If she sees one she can't focus on anything else until you put it on her.

I have very fond memories of baking with my Great Aunt Dorothy as a child and kept one of her aprons when she passed away. Since our aprons are in a drawer that the kids can reach Brooklyn opens the drawer, tosses everything else out and drags the apron across the room to wherever the closest adult is (while sounding like she's hysterically hyperventilating) until we put it on her. Then she toddles around

My least favorite tricks of hers include removing outlet covers as frequently as possible, opening and emptying everything out of drawers/cabinets, gnawing on shoes, eating dirt and pinching. She is, however, very kind to pick up all specs of lint on the carpet and hand them to me. (I've had to use the vacuum crevice tool a lot less in the last few months!)

She loves water bottles (especially anyone's other than hers), riding her trike, bouncing on the trampoline, swinging, swimming, bath time, her water table, eating, her brother's kisses, the mirror, photos, walking around with her toys in her mouth, playing peek-a-boo and being tackled.

Landon and Brooklyn both love to race up the stairs. For some reason they both think it's hilarious.

Landon still loves music, and his new favorite songs are "Rollin' in the Deep" (and pretty much all Adele songs) and "Ex's & Oh's". He loves to sing, dance and play his guitar.

It's amazing how quickly he picks things up! These days he loves to assemble his puzzle of the United States. This puzzle verbalizes the name and capital of the state of the piece when placed. I was curious about how much he paid attention to it, so one day I asked him the capital of Alabama..."Montgomery", Alaska..."Duno", Arizona..."P-nix", Arkansas..."Big Wok...hahaha", California..."P-nix" (oops!), Colorado..."Benva", Connecticut..."Pardford", then Delaware. When I said Delaware I, myself, was trying to think of the capital, and, before it came to my mind, my 2 year old schooled me..."Dober." Yes, I'm proud, BUT I thought it would be a few more years until his "homework" outgrew my ability to help. ;-)

Landon is beginning to come more out of his shell and be more social with other kids as well as adults. It's so fun to watch his interactions!

We've had a great new year so far (and since I'm so late posting I'll include February as well)!

Daniel went on a boys' trip to Vegas while I was home with the kids. When he got back he took an extra day off so we could all go to the snow. We headed up to Idylwild and spent the afternoon playing. Landon had a blast with the snowman and saucer rides. Brooklyn spent the ENTIRE time eating snow.

Landon, Brooklyn and I met friends to take a ride on a Temecula trolley. It wasn't quite as exciting as I intended it to be, but the kiddos had a fun time.

Auntie Gail and Uncle Fred came down to take Landon to Lakeshore Learning for an experiment/craft day. It sounded like they had a great time.

Brooklyn turned a year old on January 30th.

We had a little birthday party for Brooklyn with some family and close friends. We all had a great time celebrating our littlest, and she enjoyed the icing on the cake (literally)!

We had a nice Valentine's Day at home with the family with sprinkled pink heart-shaped pancakes (yuck!) and all!

We went wine tasting one evening, and at the second winery they had a live band. Landon was the only dancer for 95% of the time, but he entertained the couple hundred person "audience" for 2.5 hours, only taking breaks when the band did. At one point he went around to about 40 people giving high fives.

Super Bowl Sunday was spent at Peter and Amber's house with a small group of friends. We had a great time even though nobody seemed to care much about the outcome of the game.

Daniel and I celebrated our 15th dating anniversary this month. Time really does fly and life is quite different in the best way!

I went on a girls' trip in Newport Beach while Daniel stayed home and the kids stayed with Grammie and Papa. Landon and Brooklyn even got to go to the Long Beach Aquarium. The "macuarian" (as Landon calls it) was particularly exciting for him because he was able to see so many of the animals from his favorite movie, "Finding Nemo."

We've also enjoyed Messy Play, park days, birthday parties, cousin-time, date nights and visits from friends!

We can't believe it's been a year since we became a family of 4!

January Bloopers:

Father of the Year

"Get out of the picture...I'M the birthday girl!"

Lesson learned...don't send the kid to bed without pants covering the diaper, no matter how hot it is. (This could have been A LOT worse!)

Potty humor

So much love!

Like I said, she likes to eat. Yogurt is no exception.
