We had a great time at a princess birthday tea party. Although Brooklyn didn't want to wear a princess dress, get her hair done or wear a crown, she LOVED her press-on nails and tea cup and still talks about both!
Landon had a PJ Day at school for a Dr. Seuss reading marathon.
Brooklyn had her 4 year old check-up. She is in the 90th percentile for both height and weight. She did great for the "belly button doctor" (and will have to get umbillical hernia surgery this year), but she was less than thrilled about getting an x-ray and ultrasound (for the urologist).
Grammie made the girls coordinating headbands so they could be twinsies!
Big boy making breakfast again!
At STEAM Club night at the library this month, Landon built a rocket launcher!
MyGym fun!
Landon's school had a "Magic Treehouse" night, where they had 4 rooms of activities which corresponded to a different Magin Treehouse book (which they gave copes of). The traveling tidepool and reptile petting were our favorites!
He couldn't put the Magic Treehouse books down, even when shopping at Costco!
One night Daniel and I read old cards to/from each other from as far back as 2000. Some were really fun/funny to read!
Brooklyn had a run in with some scissors. During "quiet time" upstairs she gave herself a reverse rat tail and added some bangs.
Once I noticed, she told me that the hair she cut was in Landon's trash can. Oh my, was there a LOT of hair in that trash can! I had no words and just took it to show Daniel ("I don't want Daddy to see it!").
Daniel thought that both Brooklyn AND Landon cut their hair because there was a bunch of blonde hair and some short pieces of dark brown hair. Landon didn't cut his, nor did he know anything about Brooklyn cutting hers.
It turns out Brooklyn is a brunette! We had no idea! I know that sounds dumb, but she always had light hair. The lightest parts were at the ends, but it shaped her face when her hair was down. Once all of the blonde was cut off, it was so surprising how dark her hair and round her face look.
I gave a temporary fix that night but had to take her in for a real haircut the next morning.
Considering this was done the night before we had family pictures planned, I think we handled it very calmly. She had 2 consequences: 1) no scissors for an undetermined amount of time and 2) she had to receive attention from everyone who saw her new haircut (not easy or fun for her!). Now she says she likes her short hair better (and it takes so much less time every morning), but a few times she's requested a braid (which is not at all possible). And when I recently lifted the scissor ban, you would have thought I told her she was going to Disneyland. She was SO excited to have scissor priveleges back!
Landon got to join in on the MyGym fun a couple of times. He was happy to be back, and they both had the best times when they could free play together. Landon loved climbing the rock wall over and over, and Brooklyn loved running up and down the slides most.
Brooklyn made her first purchase with her allowance money. She really, really wanted a MyGym shirt, so she saved up, brought her wallet to class and asked to purchase a red shirt. She was so proud and so excited to wear it the next day to match her teacher, Ms. Haley.
Daddy took the kids to the comfy movie theater to see "How To Train Your Dragon 3" after the gym, lunch and some time at Daddy's work. They had a great time!
The day before St. Patrick's Day, we made green shamrock cupcakes because Landon thought that would lure the leprechaun into his trap.
Here's Landon's trap (with a sign on the wall saying, "this is rainbow" above the rainbow fruit roll-up taped to the wall).
And here's Brooklyn's trap that she and Daddy set in the bonus room because she didn't like the idea of the leprechaun being in her room while she was asleep. (Note that since Mommy wasn't there, everyone else forgot about the cupcakes we HAD to make for the traps...so I made a 3rd trap in the kitchen,) Unfortunately, nobody caught the little guy.
Happy St. Patty's! After seeing what the mischeivous leprechaun did overnight (painted the nails gold on one of each of their hands, gave Mommy a green streak in her hair and Daddy a green moustache, made a mess of their bathroom and esacped all of our leprechaun traps), we started off the festive day with green pancakes with lucky charm marshmallows, green eggs, green juice and our annual fruit rainbow.
Then we headed to Killarney's to enjoy some Irish music, Irish dancing and green beer for Daddy.
We played in the "little pool."
Then the Kelepouris' came over for corned beef (and a Chess match).
Charlotte, Ty, Brooklyn, Zoe, Caleb and Steven celebrated St. Patty's at school.
Daniel had a work trip in Minneapolis, which kicked off with an NBA game!
The kids love video chatting...mostly for the time when they can do the silly faces.
Brooklyn and I took lunch to Landon one day for "Lunch with a Loved One" and later to his Open House, where he showed us around his room and we checked out the 1st grade classes.
A couple of times Landon has volunteered to read a book to Brooklyn. They both loved "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."
At Landon's Open House, we got to see some of his work and bring home the journals that he's written in class from the beginning of the school year until now. It's fun to read what he's interested in!
Daniel's work team had an event which ended at an Italian restaurant making gnocchi and creme brule.
Brooklyn made it to her first NHL game this month. She (and Landon...and Daniel) were excited to wear their Sharks gear.
We had great seats!
It was a really fun family night!
Brooklyn & Daniel een made it onto the Jumbotron!
...and the Ducks won!!
We went back to Grammie's house, and the next day we made our way to Pretend City. Harvesting was the favorite again!
Dentistry was fun too!
...and we spent a good amount of time at "the beach."
The following day we headed to the Orange County Swap Meet, which had some fun bouncers and live music. Daniel and Landon even got new hats.
What's a trip to Grammie's without Pavion Park?!
We spent an afternoon at Lake Mission Viejo, and it was the perfect day! The weather was so nice, and we practically had the beach to ourselves. The kids dug in the sand and played on the playground. The water was a bit cold, so we didn't spend much time in it (or go in all the way), but it was great!
While in Mission Viejo, we also ate at Mongolian BBQ, got ice cream, and played with Sydney & Mackenzie as well as Ella.
We also had a fun morning with Auntie Gail & Uncle Fred!
We made it home for Landon's first soccer practice. "The Rebels" had their first game that Saturday (and Grammie & Papa came down to watch)!
Uncle B and Daddy spent the afternoon flying fighter jets and dog fighting. They toured Coronado then spun upsidedown (over and over) and all around trying to shoot each other down!
One afternoon during the kids' "quiet time" I could hear Landon cracking up a whole bunch, and upon investigation I found that he was taking videos of himself with Daniel's old camera he gave to Landon.Daniel and the kids went to the Giants-Padres game with Mr. John, the Fenwicks and Palmquists (and watched Mason & Smith on the field in a pre-game parade). They had a great time!
Over Spring Break Brooklyn was really excited to have a playdate at Veteran's Park with Charlotte and Zoe, and Landon was excited to meet Juliana at Belle Maison Park.
