Welcome back! We've now got an 8-monther and an almost-2-and-a-halfer!
Brooklyn is measuring 18lbs 3.5oz and 27.25" long (58th percentile for both). September was a big month for her!
She has even climbed up 2 stairs. It's a good thing we still have the baby gates on the stairs!
Brooklyn has also taken up waving and clapping.
She will sparingly give high fives upon request. And, when the mood strikes her (not us), she gives open mouth baby kisses.
She's getting her first 2 teeth. Both of the bottom middle teeth are coming in. It's a relief that there's a reason for all this drooling!
This
month she has tried more foods and has learned how to drink water from a sippy
cup as well as through a straw.
She loves to be standing. She has been trying to stand up on her own on every piece of furniture/toy in the house, but she hasn't gotten all the way up quite yet. She'll stay standing for 5 minutes if we set her down on her feet (holding onto something).
She still loves to look at herself in mirrors as well as at pictures (both of herself and others, but maybe a little more of herself).
She KIND OF says "Dada". She knows who he is if we say it, and she says "Dadadadada" or "Adadada"...but I really don't think it has anything to do with him. (Kind of like when Landon said "Dada" for several months before he said "Mama".)
Brooklyn still lives by the "stranger - danger" motto and prefers to be in the hands of AND making eye contact with someone she knows well. In other words, please don't be offended if she cries as soon as you say "hi" to her. It's not you; it's her. ;-)
Landon's September has been fun as well. We've spent quite a bit of time in the backyard, and he just runs from activity to activity.
One of his favorite things these days are puzzles. Grammie and Papa have a 25-piece puzzle of the Golden Gate Bride at their house, and when we're staying there Landon puts it together and takes it apart an average of 10 times a day (and would be more if we weren't out doing other fun things).
He loves vehicles (both real and toy). We play cars/trucks all of the time!
We're in the beginnings of potty training. Well, we will officially start next weekend, but we've had a few unexpected successes already. Fingers, toes, etc. are all crossed for a smooth and quick learning curve!
Since Daniel's brother's family moved down the street at the end of August, we've had a bunch of cousin time. Landon has thoroughly enjoyed Jacob and Zoe time. Even Brooklyn joins in the fun at times.
We're back to a love-hate relationship on Landon's end. He is so sweet with her and loves her at times, but he also loves his toys and has a bit of a tough time sharing. The good days, however, are great! He enjoys feeding her, telling me what she wants, startling her, playing in either of their cribs with her when they wake up, kissing her on the top of the head and giving her hugs. One day we were walking through the neighborhood with Brooklyn in the stroller, and Landon reached through the side of the stroller to hold her hand while we walked. While holding her hand he felt the need to watch her while he serenaded her with a few rounds of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". Brooklyn and I both loved it!
We started out the month with a separated family vacation, Daniel and me to Santa Rosa to visit friends and attend a wedding and Landon and Brooklyn to Grammie and Papa's house. We all had a wonderful time!
Daniel's birthday landed on the day after we got back into town. He took an extra day off of work, and chose to spend the morning at Pennipickle's Workshop, a children's discovery museum in Old Town Temecula that Landon LOVES. Prior to that, he and Landon cooked breakfast together (I volunteered to, but he didn't trust my egg-flipping capability). Somewhere in there he decided he wanted to be 15 years old and ride a skateboard, and we rounded the day out with dinner with Peter, Amber & the kids, ice cream sandwiches and snuggling. As much as he enjoys a party, he claims it was the perfect birthday!
The kids and I took a little trip to Mission Viejo while Daniel attended a bachelor party to visit, help Papa post-hip-replacement-surgery and celebrate Grandparent's Day. Papa is doing great with his new hip, and we had a wonderful weekend!
My sister-in-law, Amber, and I were able to have a girls' dinner while the kids stayed home with the dads. We returned home to 3 kids dancing in a giant fort.
Daniel, Peter and the boys headed to San Diego for a Giants v Padres game. They said it was a lot of fun and were happy to have left right before the Giants lost.
The whole family went back up to Mission Viejo a couple of weeks later to meet up with some friends and, of course, visit Grammie and Papa. Landon and Daniel even got to go to a water park at the hotel where our friends were staying and had a great time with his friend, Gunnar.
We were introduced to a new local "activity", going to the tiny French Valley Airport and watching the planes and helicopters take off. It was a fun, local adventure that we will definitely enjoy again!
Can you believe it's already October?!

She
took her first crawl "steps" at the beginning of the month and can
now get from one room to another, following her big brother. Of course, by the
time she gets there with all of the sit stops she makes, Landon has moved on to
a new activity/room.

It's been hot here. So hot that one day we even resorted to walking around the air conditioned mall. The mall has a train, water features and several fun things for Landon's age kids.
