Brooklyn is now 10 months old.
She weighs 19lb 2oz (42nd percentile) and is 27.5" long (28th percentile, almost an inch shorter than last month...hopefully she didn't shrink! Apparently, measuring a squirming 10 month old isn't easy).
She dances (bounces) when she hears music as well as on command, whether standing, sitting or mid-crawl. It looks like we might have 2 dancers in the family (neither of which are over 4 feet tall).
If you tell Brooklyn to "go night night" she will lay her head down then pop up when you say "wake up!" Landon gets a kick out of this trick of hers.
Her wave has evolved from a big arm swing to a wrist wave. It is such a small change, but it seems so much less baby-like.
She has at least 2 new teeth, possibly 3 (I've never been able to see the 5th tooth, but Daniel swears he has). The funny thing is that they are the teeth next to where the top middle ones will come in, so there's a big gap in the middle with teeth on either side. When they come all the way down it will be so cute!
She loves giving baby dolls and stuffed animals hugs and "pat pats".
Brooklyn now stands up totally on her own from a seated position and can stay standing for about 15 seconds (or as soon as she realizes what she's doing".
She also cruises from one piece of furniture (or adult leg) to the next.
Landon and Brooklyn prefer each others' toys to their own much of the time. She is often playing with his work bench tools or cars while he plays with her baby doll or shape sorter.
It's tough for me to encourage my kids to be independent because, well, I enjoy being needed...and am, by nature, pretty cautious. Despite my efforts to keep him as my baby, Landon is becoming a big kid that enjoys doing things "by myself". He can climb up to the cabinet to get his own snack and make his own toast from start to finish. (For those of you who are considering dialing CPS right now, please note that I do supervise this so he doesn't stick a fork in the toaster or anything.) Even his potty training has gone much better this month, although we're not yet total "in the clear".
Landon's favorite activity these days (and has been for some time) is cooking. He loves pretending to cook as well as being Mama or Dada's sous chef when truly cooking or baking. He doesn't care what task he is assigned, as long as he gets to use some sort of cooking utensil. How old does he have to be before I can have him prepare dinner for the family on his own? ;-)
He finally fits on his balance bike! We busted it out when Grammie and Papa were here to witness.
Landon and Daniel cozied up and read books by the fire a few times, and Landon thought it was just the most special treat!
We chopped his hair. :-( It was time, but I feel like we were a little over zealous with the amount cut off. He looks like a new kid, and I miss the curls!
Landon still loves art. He remains very focused when creating a masterpiece.
He continued to enjoy attending his Messy Play class this month. Daniel was even able to join us a couple of times!
We had some fun visitors, Auntie Gail and Uncle Fred, who came with a science experiment in tow. It was a fun experiment and sparked Daddy's interest in performing frequent simple science experiments with Landon. We have all had a bunch of fun with these. (Yes, we already know we're nerds.)
We attended Landon's friend's 2nd birthday party at the French Valley Wings and Wine Air Show. We all really enjoyed watching the air show, and Landon even got to sit inside a real helicopter. We're looking forward to attending this event annually!
Daniel got to spend some quality time with our niece and nephew. He watched Jacob and Zoe overnight while I stayed with Landon and Brooklyn. Daniel had a great time with them! And Landon and I enjoyed a "date night" after we put Brooklyn to sleep.
Daniel took a day off of work so we could have a family day down in San Diego. We started out at the Balboa Park carousel, but it was closed. So we decided to picnic there instead. There was a great climbing tree for the boys and even a digger working across the street - lunch with a view! We continued the fun at the Model Railroad Depot in Old Town SD. What a cool place that was! There are so many little details that both kids and us adults enjoyed.
The kids and I took a drive up to Mission Viejo to surprise Grammie for her birthday. Grammie, Uncle Matt Matt, the kids and I spent the morning at Pretend City and joined Papa and Aunt Jane for dinner and birthday cake in the evening. It was a quick trip, but we had a wonderful time!
Just a couple of days later Grammie and Papa came to visit us. Grammie was able to attend a Music and Movement class with Landon, and they stayed with us for the weekend so Daniel and I could have a couple of evenings with friends sans kids.
Thanksgiving was celebrated here at our house. Landon had been obsessed with the Thanksgiving books Grammie gave him, so he was very much looking forward to Turkey Day. He even recited a Thanksgiving toast before our meal (stolen from his favorite Thanksgiving book, "Thanksgiving with the Tappletons"). It was so nice to have a lot of the family together!
We're already in the swing of things for Christmas and can't wait to celebrate with our babies (don't tell Landon I called him that).
