May 2018

May started out chilly, so we built a cozy reading corner by the fire a couple of nights.

May was Brooklyn's last month of gymnastics (at least for a while). She had a great time with Coach Elaine, Zoe and the other kids. She did a great job the last couple of months in the big girl (no parent participation) class!

The even had a superhero day before we left (and Landon & Lucas wanted to participate as well)!

We spent a day in Mission Bay with the Zims. The plan was to swim all day, but it was SO windy that we (the adults) couldn't stand it. We played games and played on the balcony (and TRIED to nap).

Years past "bathing" at the same hotel sink

The weather improved the next day, and we got in a couple of swim days at home! Brooklyn insists that she will not learn to swim until she's 8 years old because she doesn't want to put her head under the water. Landon is still a little fish!

Daniel and I celebrated our 9th anniversary with dinner &drinks, a comedy show and Pechanga casino.

Grammie, Uncle Matt Matt and I took the kids to a new fun park in Temecula.

We got to dog-sit Tyson for a bit. We loved having him around! And he loved sleeping in with Landon.

Brooklyn and I went for a walk one day and ended up having a great chat, racing and pointing out animals. We had a great time!

The kids and I enjoyed a day at Legoland. They loved the Lego Ninjago ride, looking at the Star Wars stuff, riding on the carousel, watching (and Brookyn dancin to) the live show and mostly playing with the Legos (which we could have done at home for free and without 2+ hours in the car). It was a great day!

Landon invited me to a Mother's Day Tea at Murrieta Ranch Preschool. He was so cute! They had clearly rehearsed the whole thing before the moms arrived. When Ms. Lori called his name because I was the next mom to come in the door his face lit up so bright, then he grabbed the flower and ran over to hug me. He escorted me to my (tiny) chair then calmly stood in line to get my plate of food, did the same for my tea and chatted with me until they performed a song. After the song they gave us gifts (a little flower pot with a hand print flower to hold pens and a little book about he and me) and he and Jackson goofed around. We had a really nice time. :)

The kids are such goofs sometimes!

Landon finished off his season with baseball as Rookie of the Year. He improved so much from the beginning of the season! He even played catcher (back by the fence, not up by the plate, as we are still working on catching) for an inning. Go Dodgers!

 Shopping break!

Breakfast date with Daddy!

Froyo with the cousins!

Mother's Day was PERFECT!! We started the day late (yay for sleeping in!), got breakfast in bed after some time alone while they cooked, went for a nature walk, came home to watch a movie, had a yummy dinner and ice cream sandwiches all made by Daniel and received wonderful gifts!

Uncle Matt Matt came for a visit, and we started out the week with a trip to the San Diego Safari Park. Brooklyn was excited to wear her giraffe shirt and see the giraffes! Both kids claim that the best part of the Safari Park was the carousel (probably because it was the last thing we did). I loved watching the baby wallabies get fed.

The kids spent lots of time on their bikes when Grammie, Papa and Uncle Matt Matt were visiting!

Landon has improved so much on his balance bike and he's working on his pedal bike.

Daniel took Landon and Brooklyn to Pump It Up for a birthday party.

We also went to MyGym's open house for a fun afternoon!

Brooklyn is still working on potty training. She'll do so well staying dry for 3 days, then she'll have 3 accidents in 1 day. Landon even made her a sticker chart to help with the potty training. (After 3 dry days she gets a treat, and if he is helpful in the training he gets the treat as well.)

I didn't realize how exciting backyard picnic dinners could be!

This little girl loves her daddy so much! She tells me she's not MY girl because she's Daddy's girl. They love dancing together.

We spent an evening at the Temecula Blueberry Farm having a picnic, picking blueberries then watching the movie, "Ferdinand." It was so much fun!

Before Daniel left for 8 days in Europe we went on a family walk. We love going on these nature walks together!

I love that these kids love fruits and veggies!

I took the kids to visit the Fenwicks at a campsite near our house. The kids and their friends spent hours riding bikes and playing soccer after a short time in the pool, collecting sticks & rocks and climbing a tree.

Look, Ma! No hands!

Happy Memorial Day!!! Landon told me he wants to go to college at Cal Poly. (YAY!) But when Brooklyn said she wants to go to college in Georgia he quickly changed his mind and wanted to "also go to college in Georgia so Booklyn and me can be roommates." (EVEN BIGGER YAY that they want to remain best buddies forever...at least for now!)

While Daniel was in Brussels, Belgium and Maastricht & Amsterdam, Netherlands, I began reorganizing the garage. Brooklyn was my daytime helper - she colored at the little table, climbed the ladder and swung on her rings while I got to work.

Landon had his 5 year check-up with Dr. Robbins, and he is 3'7" (47th percentile) and 39lb 8oz (38th percentile). Dr. Robbins spoke with us about asthma, what can cause it and how the medicines work. He advised us to stay on the twice daily inhaler until after we meet with the pediatric allergy/asthma doctor. So far Landon has been healthy since he began taking the preventative inhaler. The best thing about visiting the pediatrician is the In N Out milkshake right across the street after!

At the end of the month we visited Grammie's house to check on her after her rotator cuff surgery and say auf wiedersehen to Uncle Matt Matt before he indefinitely moves to Germany. While we were there Brooklyn harvested quite a bit of Grammie's tomatoes, blueberries, strawberries and a lemon. They picked oranges with Uncle Matt Matt, and drank their fair share of freshly squeezed orange juice. We had lots of yummy food! Uncle Matt Matt took the kids to a park the first day, 2 parks the second and a petting zoo the third day. You would have thought they would nap or, at least, go to sleep quickly...but no.
