Landon - Month 1

Landon is now 1 month old. We can't believe it! It has gone by so fast (yet so slow at cranky times). He has grown quite a bit in the last month, pounds and inches as well as expressions and milestones.

In the last month (as of 5/23/13)...
- He weighs 10lbs 11.5oz (75th percentile) and is 22.5" long (83rd percentile).

- Landon has gone from eating an average of 12 times per day to about 10 times per day (which certainly makes Mama happy). It hasn't seemed to decrease the number of diapers we change, however!

- He welcomed bottles with open arms (and mouth) when he was 3 weeks old, so Daddy is now able to feed him (usually once each evening for some manly bonding time).

- We also just introduced him to a pacifier. It was helpful once and didn't seem to do anything the other time, but we hope for it to work wonders as he gets used to it, on the occasions we use it.

- Landon is one lucky guy, and has had many visitors from special friends and family over the first month, and we look forward to introducing all of our other friends and family to him in the coming months.

- Since the day he was born he has had great neck strength, and it is getting stronger and more controlled by the week. With this neck strength, one might think he would be a champ at "tummy time" (putting him on his stomach to get him to lift his head and chest). This is not the case, however. Not to say he isn't good at holding his head up (he is), but the attention span and following of instructions from Mama is lacking. For example, he uses his legs when I say arms, tilts his head to the side when I ask him to lift it (which made him roll/fall over to his back), falls asleep after 10 seconds of being on his tummy (although I can't fault him for that, as it is his only opportunity to sleep on his tummy, and I am a stomach sleeper myself), etc.
So cozy he couldn't resist snoozing

- He has also been very alert from the start. Now he is much better at focusing and will follow faces and objects back and forth. The focusing has come in quite handy during diaper changes, something he is not too fond of, as we have Gerome the Giraffe sitting right above him. Landon stares in awe at Gerome the entire time, unaware that he's getting a fresh diaper. The days have been much more peaceful since this discovery - thank you, Gerome!

- He loves to be held by anyone...anyone who is standing up, that is. How can he tell when we sit down?! We haven't been able to figure that out.

- We have finally braved public places. His first shopping outing was to Target, and he attended a girls'+Landon lunch at Islands on his 1 month birthday. He has done great in public places so far (for the most part), as nervous as I have been about him being in a good mood when taking him out.

First park day

- Daniel and I were able to get out for a bit while Papa and Gramma Zimmy watched Landon. It was a pretty quick meal (we rushed back pretty quickly in case he needed to eat, as we hadn't introduced the bottle to him at that time), but we were thankful to have some time away from the house and look forward to longer date nights in the future!

- He is getting less and less cranky as the days go by, and, although we aren't on a schedule by any means yet, the days are getting a little more predictable...which is nice. :)
More manly bonding time

We caught him staring out (well, more likely AT) the window.

- Landon is learning to deal with the camera flash, as I LOVE taking pictures of him! The poor guy has had several photo shoots already (in addition to the daily pics we take).

Whether he likes it or not! ;)

- Daniel and I both love cuddling with Landon. Many nights Landon will fall asleep on his daddy's chest (and sometimes Daddy falls asleep as well). I love my time snuggling with him, usually after he falls asleep from a "milk coma".

- Last, but best of all, Landon started smiling (intentionally) for us at about 3 weeks and is showing his pearly whites (well, his gums) more and more. We LOVE coaxing those smiles out by talking to and kissing him. Those are definitely the most exciting times of the day (although difficult to catch on camera)!

We are beginning to feel like parents, although it hasn't totally sunk in yet. We are really enjoying our time getting to see our little guy grow and change, and we can't wait to see what's next!
