4th of July Bacation in SLO/Pismo

We always have an amazing on our 4th of July "bacation" in San Luis Obispo / Pismo Beach, and this year was no different! The kids and I had a day (mani/pedis at home) to prep.

A week or two before the trip we all decided to go up a night early to stay at The Cliffs (where Daniel and I got married) where the kids could swim and we could all enjoy a bonus day. Unfortunately, my car decided to have trouble right before the trip, so we had to cram everything into a much smaller car than mine. Luckily I had packed (3 days early because I had a day without the kids) lightly.

We started our trip, as usual, at 4am in hopes that the kids would sleep for part of the drive. The kids were excited about the "vacation car" and the fort we made for them (with a fitted sheet to aide in their sleeping later), so we had them play in it for as long as they wanted the night before (so it wouldn't be exciting at 4am. It didn't work...nobody slept, but they did remain pretty quiet for most of the drive. As we have done for the last 4ish years, we all met at Honeymoon Cafe in Pismo Beach for breakfast.

We all headed to a new park in SLO that was so much fun!

We checked into The Cliffs and quickly got down to the pool.

Later that night we walked to Shell Beach Brewhouse for dinner.

The kids started out the next morning with donuts together while watching a show.

Then we headed to the tide pools right below the hotel where the kids spent some time braving the rocks and exploring.

Off to Firestone Grill!

Then the moms did all of the grocery shopping while the dads took the kids to another park and checked into the house.

We spent the next afternoon at 2 wineries, Baileyana and Kelsey Sea Canyon. The Kelsey winery had at least 15 peacocks roaming right over a fence that the kids tried to feed (although they didn't seem to be hungry).

When we got back to the house we relaxed for a bit until the bounce house was delivered. It was a surprise for the kids, and they loved it!

Later that evening we headed to Sinsheimer Elementary School park to play on the playground, eat pizza, play baseball and watch the San Luis Blues baseball game fireworks.

On the 4th of July we didn't leave the house. We played on the bounce house, enjoyed the slip and slide, had a water balloon fight, made homemade ice cream, "swam" in the hot (warm) tub, played lawn games & card games and just had a great time!

The following day was Boys' Day. They took Brian's new Tesla out for a spin to Pozo Saloon after a hike, which happened to be closed, unfortunately. They made their way to a whiskey distillery and some breweries then came home to drop off the car when the kids ambushed them with water balloons. The kids and dads both loved it! Then the dads went back out to dinner and local bars.

What the adults refer to as Boys' Day is what the kids call Moms' Day (and vice versa). On Moms' Day we took the kids, by request, to the SLO Children's Museum (as we did last year), stopped by the candy store on the way to get rolled ice cream for lunch and back to the house to play on the bounce house until the dads came home to the water balloon ambush. We had a great time (and the kids liked Moms' Day better than Dads' Day this year - yay!)!!

The following day we switched and had Girls' Day and Dads' Day. We spent girls' day on a beautiful, sunny and steep hike (without water - oops!) then straight to the Dolphin Bay Spa. We got massages and lunch, sandwiched by laying by the pool. I even read some of my book and snuck in a nap!

The dads and kids spent "Dads' Day" bowling at Cal Poly, eating lunch at Firestone Grill, playing at a park and (organizing shoes) at home.

Then we had a beach day at Shell Beach. Brooklyn loved digging in the sand as well as running in and out of the waves with Landon and Smith.

After some relaxation, the babysitters arrived and the adults went to Novo for dinner and to a couple of bars.

The last day was incredibly hot, so we decided to go to the Cal Poly Rec Center to go swimming ($180 later - yikes!).

Then, of course, for ice cream again (as we did pretty much everyday). The dads went next door for a drink.

On our last night we told the kids to go outside for a little. A few minutes later we heard them all chanting, "Go, Marlee, go! Go, Marlee, go!" We looked outside to see Marlee (and Addison escorting her) running a lap around the backyard and back to the group, then, "Go, Brooklyn, go! Go, Brooklyn, go!" and on and on for each of the kids. It was so cute! We also enjoyed s'mores in the backyard (in matching tie dye fail shirts).

...and the following day we drove home.

Poor Landon got car sick this time but was fine for 95% of the drive. We were all sad "bacation" was over but happy to be home in our own beds and on more of a schedule. What a fun week with amazing friends!

We got together again for a pool party a couple weeks later, and we had a fun time watching the video (https://youtu.be/Ma76CiWO2jk) of our 9 days on bacation.
