July 2018

We spent the first 9 days of the month on our annual vacation with "the 4th of July group." (see 4th of July post)

While in SLO/Pismo Landon rode around in Marisa's car, where they played the movie "Sing." The week we returned the movie playing during the $1 SUmmer Movie Program happened to be "Sing." I didn't tell the kids which movie we were going to see, and this was Landon's face when he read "Sing" on the board. We also watched "Ferdinand."

Both kids attended basketball camp each week this month. Brooklyn got very frustrated with herself for not being able to dribble. "I'm not good at this." and "I'm never gonna be able to dribble!" She cried at the end all but once, but she did finish each of the days. I felt her pain - I, too, don't like not being good at things. Landon seemed to enjoy it more while he was there, but neither of them was excited when it was time to leave the house for camp.

Landon flashed "I love you" in sign language to me randomly while waiting for his turn. He can really be very sweet! :)

The kids were excited to be twinsies on the first day of camp!

Landon enjoyed his Kiwi Crate packages that Grammie and Papa subscribed him up for. This month he and I made this little sweeper that picks up and collects dirt/pom pom balls off the ground. He found it exciting to create something from raw materials!

We also attended Messy Play this month. They both had a great time. I found it interesting that Landon liked to spend most of his time at the coloring/sticker table each week, whereas Brooklyn preferred the sensory bins more.

Why doesn't he want to use the scrub brush at home?!

One day after Messy Play we went on a bike ride by the lake. Brooklyn did a good job on the balance bike, and Landon rode in circles around us. We all had a great time, and we even got to stop to see the ducks and turtles and for some play time at the park.

We all really enjoy the concerts in the park that Temecula puts on.

Landon took a couple trial gymnastics classes this month and said he LOVED it! He did a great job too!

Landon has been extra scared of things lately, mostly bad guys in movies, but it's been giving him nightmares. One night he woke up screaming for me because he "had a nightmare that Emma (his very sweet friend from school) had a bomb in a building and you and Daddy were trying to find me to save me...I don't know why she would do that?" The poor guy could not fall back to sleep for hours and had a really hard time getting to sleep the next few nights. I let him sleep in my bed that morning while Daniel was out of town, and anytime he dozed off and woke up (many times) he would scoot closer to me. At one point his head wasn't close enough to mine when they were touching, apparently, so he moved to lay with his head right on top of mine.

Before Daniel took a "work" trip to Las Vegas he took the kids to his work one morning. They loved the "secret" candy/snack drawer and coloring in the conference room.

It has surely been pool weather this summer! We have gotten lots of use of the pool, whether it be with friends, when Daddy gets home, when Grammie and Papa came to visit or on our own in just our (the kids, not the adults) undies.

They were so excited to find out they have matching Darth Vader jammies!

One day we met Megan, Mason and Marlee at the waterpark inside Legoland. We all had a great time!

After the Fenwicks left we stayed and played in the main park for a few hours.

They even have a small aquarium (with a slide and these bubbles that the kids can put their heads in to feel like they're in the fish tank).

Landon and I had a date night at the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball game. We had a great time being goofy, chasing Thunder, the mascot, running up and down a hill, eating ice cream, trying carbonated soda (yuck!) and having some good conversations with just us.

We invited Landon's Pre-K friends, Addie, Emma and Jackson, over for a pool party. Landon surprised them with Class of 2031 folders to decorate with hand-picked (everyone needed specific colored) school supplies. He was more excited about the folders than swimming (and he LOVES swimming!) - it was cute. :)

A few days later we had another pool party, this time with the 4th of July gang so we could all watch the 4th of July recap video together. The kids had a GREAT time in the pool!

I got sick for a few days, and on the day that I woke up feeling really terrible the kids were angels! They started out the day sleeping in (which is ever so helpful), then I told them I wasn't feeling well and if they could get themselves ready for the day then they could watch a movie...they did. Once the movie was over they got themselves breakfast, played together and on their own, never once arguing (at least loud enough to wake me up), Landon got them each a water bottle and filled them up and even volunteered to make their own lunch when I got out of bed at NOON. I couldn't believe how incredibly wonderful they were!!

Daniel and I took Zoe out for her (4th) birthday date. She chose to go to Soup Plantation. Her first course was ice cream, then she got a second serving of ice cream at the end because (it was her birthday celebration AND) she tried a new food. Seven vegetable soup sat in her mouth for almost a full minute because she didn't like it and wanted to spit it out but really wanted more ice cream, for which we required her to swallow her bit. The poor girl had the most awful expression on her face for so long (and ended up spitting it out)...but redeemed herself with a bite of chicken noodle soup (sans chicken "because it's yucky").

Grammie, Papa and Tyson came for a visit. It seemed like it had been such a long time since we last saw them. Grammie joined us at Messy Play, treated us to froyo, shared a bed with Landon, Papa worked on a puzzle with the kids and supervised Grammy's babysitting so Daniel and I could have a night out, and they also attended Zoe's My Little Pony birthday party.

The kids love having Tyson!

This week Landon started Jr. Droid Camp with his friend, Jackson. Together they built a robot to race. Today he created a launcher and arm to launch, and he was very pleased to announce that he won both races this time. Landon had a great time, probably mostly because he was with his buddy!

We celebrated Brooklyn's half birthday on the 30th. She enjoyed candles, sprinkles and half of the Happy (Half) Birthday song with every meal (half a bowl of oatmeal, half an English muffin, half panini, half cupcake...half of everything). Landon received the other half of that cupcake, and the both licked their (chocolate syrup) plates clean!
