4th of July Bacation 2020

BACATION this year was a bit different, due to COVID-19. All of the adults got tested before we went so there wasn't stress about spreading it to each other in our close quarters. We knew we wouldn't go to as many places as we usually do so we got the bounce house and a water slide for 4 days. When we did go out, we masked up and spent as much of our time outside (Firestone Grill patio, etc.).

The Rogers invited us up a few days early to stay with them in their rented "farm house" in SLO. We had a great bonus time eating, biking, drinking, playing cards, going on a hike (moms and kids - technically, the hike started out REALLY rough for one little girl, Auntie Melis promised extra ice cream to the first person to the top of the hill and I've never seen Landon run uphill so hard-he won, once to the top Brooklyn forgot about being upset and it was great the rest of the hike!), coloring, sleeping in (Brooklyn), playing, going to the beach (moms and kids) and minimally working in customized work stations with a couple of supervisors.

We wrapped up the first house and moved into the Bacation House. First stop, Honeymoon Cafe. Luckily they were open with plenty of outdoor patio seating.

The moms headed out for groceries while the dads supervised the delivery of the bounce house and water slide. We spent the first day (and much of the next few days as well) at the house bouncing, sliding and playing.

Brooklyn was in heaven - she caught 2 lizards and a frog and got to pick plums off the tree to eat. (Not pictured: the 6ft long living snake she accidentally stepped on)

17 bikes

The next day we went to Montana de Oro, where we played on the sand dunes and climbed to the other side to the tide pools.

On our way back to the house we stopped for lunch at Firestone Grill.

Once we got home Marlee came crying into the kitchen, so we quickly shoved Megan in the pantry and closed the door. When Marless couldn't find Mommy anywhere, she was fine.

On the 4th we stayed at the house and played.

Moms' Day / Boys' Day - the dads went golfing and to lunch then came home for some quiet time and basketball. The kids had donuts and screen time in the morning, played on the bounce house and water slide, went into downtown SLO get ice cream and candy, came home for a household scavenger hunt put on by Addison and Canon with an Oreo prize for all at the end. They were required to take a group picture with their Oreo, when the moms water balloon ambushed them which turned into a water balloon fight (which neither Brooklyn nor Smith chose to participate in). Then we created an American Ninja Warrior race course that the kids raced and waited for the dads to return. The dads didn't get much rest time when they got home because the 4 older kids challenged them to the ANW course. At the end of the course the kids ambushed the dads (who are always GREAT sports) with silly string. We finished off the night with popcorn and a Descendants movie projected onto the girls' bedroom wall so they could all be comfy on beds/air mattresses.

One day we rode bikes down the Bob Jones Trail to get ice cream in Avila Beach.

After bedtime the adults generally gathered in the backyard around the fire. We played a new game, Code Names, which was really fun (and stressful) a few times.

The boys tried to cover up their receding hairlines, but none of the wives even noticed.

Dad's Day / Girls' Day - the moms went on a good (and slippery - 4ish falls) hike, grabbed sandwiches and headed to relax at the beach, then we had dinner on the patio at Novo. The dads took the kids to bike at Montana de Oro then to Firestone Grill and a 60 minute wait for ice cream at Roll'd. They had a "no day" to which every answer to kids was NO. (The kids wanted a YES Day but got a NO Day and quickly figured out how to turn NO Day into YES Day by wording their questions differently!) Their favorite part was playing a game of Beanboozled with yucky and yummy Jelly Bellies.

On the 4th, the dads and some of the kids hiked Bishop's Peak. Brooklyn was the youngest and, from what I hear, she was a real trooper!
